Bradford Cabbie held at Knifepoint
March 2010
Taxi driver Jammil Zed, 41, went through a horrific attack when one of his passengers held him at knifepoint.
Mr Zed, who works for Greengates-based Power Carz, picked up an Asian man in his 20s and a white female and took the pair to a block of flats in Fairhaven Green, Idle.
When the car stopped the male attacker asked the women to kill the ignition and headlights. Once the car was in darkness, he demanded that Mr Zed hand over all his money whilst holding a blade to his neck. Cooperating, Mr Zed handed over his night’s takings of £50 in the hope he would be spared, but the attacker slashed his throat before getting out of the car.
Two suspects fled the scene, throwing the car keys on top of the taxi as they left.
Praying to God
Mr Zed told The Telegraph and Argus, ““I was praying to God he didn’t hurt me but he struck me with a blade, about five or six inches long, in the neck from the back of the car and took my money and keys.”
“When they left I got out of the car, picked the keys up and rang the police. All my friends came down to see if I was okay.”
Mr Zen, who has been a taxi driver in Bradford for six years has not been back at work since the attack. He required four stitches for his neck wound following the attack. He said:
“I’m very shaken up. I can’t go to sleep and I haven’t worked since.”
Detective Inspector John Mountain of Airedale and North Bradford CID said: “I’m confident that the attackers will live nearby to where they were dropped off and am particularly appealing for the help of residents in the Fairhaven Green area to help us find these people.
“This was a distressing incident for the taxi driver who, with colleagues, provides an essential service and with the public’s help I’m confident we can make some early arrests.”
