Warrington Taxi Licence Hike Causes Uproar
January 2010
Local cabbies are up in arms following the announcement of a hike in price for annual taxi licences.
Last year an operator’s annual licence fee was £25. This year taxi operators are facing a three hundred per cent rise, with fees set at £100.
Operator licences are a requirement for any services supplied to the council such as school runs. So the increase has left drivers infuriated, who view the price rise as something of an “added tax” on any work carried out for the council.
Also this year a general taxi driver’s badge will more than double in price from £28 to £72. On top of this drivers must also pay an extra £5 for their DVLA check plus a £5 administration charge and a £5 administration charge for a Criminal Records Bureau check.
