Millionaire Cabbie for Hire

Millionaire Cabbie for Hire

August 2010

A 76 year-old taxi driver from Dorking, in Surrey, scooped a cool £26.1 million on the EuroMillions draw.

Cabbie George Sturt shared the win with his three children Gary, Colin and Teresa, who pay £4 each week towards tickets.  When George, who is known for being a bit of a joker, told his family they had won the triple rollover jackpot, they didn’t believe it at first.

Mr Sturt’s son, Colin, a builder, said: “I'm honestly in a state of shock.”  Not surprising, given that the lucky family had already won the lottery twice that same week!  Mr Sturt, who usually buys the tickets at his local newsagent, won £22 on the Saturday draw, £52 on Wednesday and then Friday's big one  -  the fourth largest EuroMillions jackpot won in Britain.

George and his three children will each receive over £6 million.  However, despite his big win George has vowed not to give up his day job as a part-time taxi driver.  George told the Dorking Advertiser: “I won’t give up driving my taxi, I’ve met too many nice people through it.”

Taxi George, who lost his wife Maureen to breast cancer only six months ago, plans to give a chunk of  the cash to charity.
