Fare's FairCheaper Fares in York![]()
York Cathedral Taxi fares are due to be reduced in York in June. An agreement between city officials and cabbies has been made to scrap the ‘fuel surcharge’ first introduced 18th August last year when fuel prices were at their peak. Standard fares are also being frozen, so York taxi users will enjoy a 20p cut in all fares. The secretary of York Taxi Association, Graham Philips told The Cabbie, “Last year the Council agreed to put a 20p surcharge on fares as a temporary measure to cover the increase in fuel costs. Due to the change in cost of fuel the surcharge will be removed and customer will also benefit from a freeze in fares.” Formula Graham continues, “We work out the fares using a formula know as the ‘Grisdale Formula’. This has been in use in York for 10 years now and has been agreed with the Council. This year the figure for the formula was -0.04 per cent. We decided to go with the figure as the previous year’s figure was 7.8 per cent.” “All our members were in agreement with the decision to stick with the formula this year despite the negative figure as last year there was a significant rise. We’ve used it for many years now and strictly stick by it. From what I can ascertain this is the only formula used in the UK and it has proved to be very effective since its introduction ten years ago.” The 20p fare reduction and fare freeze will take effect from 1st June. |
